All you need to know about the Tissot PRX
Whether you have some knowledge about watches, or you’re completely new to the field, you most likely know about Tissot. It’s a renowned Swiss watchmaking brand with a long history in the time-keeping business. The company was founded in Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1853, by Charles-Félicien Tissot and his son, Charles-Émile Tissot. The brand was later acquired by Omega, and is now part of the Swatch group.
Over the years, Tissot have released numerous watch models, some more successful than others. But in recent years, there is one range that performed notably well in sales, and that so many people grew to love. You guessed it: it’s the Tissot PRX. What does PRX stand for? Precise, robust, and 10 ATM water resistant (“X” being the Roman numeral for 10).
Why is the Tissot PRX such a beloved timepiece? There are multiple reasons. Some view it as a tribute to iconic timepieces in the watch world, like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak. Some see it as the perfect everyday wristwatch: an elegant, versatile watch that looks luxurious on the wrist, with just the right touch of sportiness. Others consider it a piece you can’t go wrong with: a watch that will be appreciated by watch pros and amateurs alike. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments.
Tissot PRX: movement
When it comes to the movement of the watch, the Tissot PRX comes either with a quartz movement or with an automatic movement (called the Powermatic 80). The type of movement makes a great difference when it comes to the price of the watch. For example, let’s take the Tissot PRX 40mm with blue dial. The quartz model retails for around $370 as we previously mentioned, the automatic retails for around $750. So, if you decide to opt for the Powermatic 80 movement, you will essentially need to pay double for the watch.
Which movement is better? Both are Swiss-made, both are highly accurate time-keepers. I would say you can’t go wrong with either of them. It’s more of a matter of preference. If you prefer a battery-powered movement, go with the quartz. If you’re into mechanical movements and enjoy having to wind your watch from time to time, go with the Powermatic 80. The price point is also a factor to consider.
Tissot PRX: design
When it comes to the design of the watch, you’ll get a multitude of variations for the Tissot PRX.
First of all, we can talk about the size of the case. While the Tissot PRX was originally available only with a 40-mm case, now it also comes with a 35-mm case that will fit smaller wrists. Both the quartz and the automatic models are now available in these sizes, so you don’t have to compromise on the movement. While sticking to size, you should know that the stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted to smaller wrist sizes by getting some of the links removed.
Secondly, let’s talk about color variations. The dial color is a major topic of discussion. While most prefer the navy blue dial on the Tissot PRX, there are other color options available as well, like green, white, Tiffany blue, and more.
The color of the bezel or even of the case and bracelet can differ. The 35-mm range also introduced some new color schemes that are quite appealing. So you have a bit of room for imagination when it comes to choosing the perfect Tissot PRX watch model to fit your style.
An important thing to consider is that the dials are also different for quartz models vs. the automatic ones. The automatic model bares a closer resemblance to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak due to the texture of its dial. And whether people love or hate that about it it’s still up for debate.
Below you can see the Tissot PRX with navy blue dial – the Powermatic 80 model vs. the quartz model. Which one do you prefer? Let us know in the comments.

If you’re particularly interested in the specific Tissot PRX watch model featured in our unboxing video, let’s talk a bit more about it. You can find our video review of the watch here. So make sure to check that out as well.
When it comes to the dimensions of the watch, we consider it a good choice for medium to large wrist sizes. The watch comes with a 40-mm case, with a thickness of 10.4 mm. The case height is 39.5 mm, but it wears larger, due to the fixed lugs that hold the bracelet in place. It’s not a heavy watch to have on the wrist. In fact, it’s surprisingly light.

The watch encases a Powermatic ETA F06.115 Quartz EOL (Renata 371 battery cell) movement and it features a date window at 3 o’clock. With a water resistance of 100 meters / 10 ATM, the watch will withstand splashes and occasionally getting wet.
As for the design specs, the bracelet of the watch comes with a butterfly clasp. And is easily changeable. It comes with a quick-release system, so you can change it at home in just 1 minute, without any tools. We have a quick video tutorial about it.
The watch pairs a stainless steel case with a stainless steel bracelet, and it has a mineral glass crystal. Finally, the hands and hour markers have a glow-in-the-dark function, so you can read the time in low light as well.
